Since news began to surface of President Xi Jinping’s visit to the Qingfeng steamed bun house in Beijing last month, the eatery has not only gained notoriety around the country but has now become a meeting ground for petitioners. Groups of protestors were photographed outside of the shop recently with signs and banners accusing the government of obscurantism in hopes to attract attention from relevant departments.
The petitioners all agreed that the restaurant was a good place for to protest after the location started receiving massive media attention, and last Saturday, a large number of them showed up outside of the shop hanging banners calling out the government for corruption.
The Qinfeng restaurant chain was launched in Beijing in 1948, and has nearly two hundred locations in Beijing. The one Xi Jinping paid a visit to profits more than one million yuan in a year.
