After photos of the Chinese National Pole Dancing Team performing in the snow went viral (for serious, complex reasons, I’m sure), the intrepid journalists at Xinhua decided to give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the team.
The Chinese pole dancing team is composed of 16 dancers selected from the Chinese National Pole Dance Championship in which contestants participated from all over the country. The team then takes part in world-class pole dancing events, and the 2013/2014 World Pole Sport & Fitness Championships will be held in London this month.
He Bi, a member in the team, says:
“Every day before training, we have to do warm-up exercises for more than one hour. We cannot wear too much clothing, and sometimes—to increase the friction—we have to spray water on our bodies and the poles. It’s freezing cold to practice in winter.”
Too all the haters out there: we’ll stop with the pole-dancing image galleries as soon as you stop reading them.
