Pan Shiyi, real-estate tycoon, chairman of SOHO China and renowned blogger, rode the Shanghai Metro and tested concentrations of PM2.5 in 14 spots across the city, where levels ranged from 36 to 54 micrograms per cubic meter.
SOHO is the largest prime office real-estate developer in China, with headquarters located in the Chaoyang district of Beijing.
Chairman Pan Shiyi has gained celebrity for his blogging and has over 16 million followers on Weibo. In the midst of the government’s ongoing censorship crackdown, CCTV recently aired an interview with Pan about the “social responsibilities” of microbloggers, in which he said that popular figures should be “more disciplined” when writing.
“If we post completely casually … the social impact and damage will be greater,” Pan said.
Pan and his wife are also well-known for their conversion to the Baha’i faith in 2005. The religion, which claims to be one of the fastest growing religions in the world, originated in Iran some 150 years ago and has over 5 million followers around the globe.
