A Sichuan-based energy company said that it is planning to spend as much as 1 billion yuan to build a fancy life-sized Titanic replica that will help people learn about the history of the ship that hit an iceberg and sank south of Newfoundland on April 14, 1912.
Plans for the replica were first reported by the media in October in 2013, when Seven Star Energy Investment Group announced that an American high technology company was being hired to provide designs based on the Titanic’s sister ship, RMS Olympic.
The group has now announced that after being designed, the replica will be built by the Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Company Ltd., a subsidiary of the state-owned giant China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, with construction expected to last 2 years.
A museum about the Titanic will also be built to educate people about the history of the ship.
