Mammamia! opens in the Super Brand Mall: For many, Matto’s shuttering and pending relocation to the French Concession signaled the end of Pudong’s pizza scene. Fortunately, owner Enzo Carbone’s crew kept the location and in its place, opened Mammamia!, a trattoria serving Enzo’s signature authentic, wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas in a family-style setting. It’s similar to Matto with delicious, characteristically thicker-crusted pizzas (78-158RMB), hand-crafted gnocchi and other pastas, and premium imported, organic ingredients – but perhaps slightly more low key. There’s nothing as out there as Matto’s pizza fritta, literally “deep-fried” pizza (I know it’s a traditional Neapolitan snack, but still), and the decor’s a bit warmer. But the pizza quality is as divine as you’d expect from a pizza maven like Enzo, as are the Salumis, the Antipastis like the San Daniele Gran Riserva ham with buffalo mozzarella, and just about everything else.

Kabb opens Jing’an Kerry Center branch: Kabb’s Bar and Grills have been spreading like wildfire this past year. Last fall, they set up shop in the sparkling new IAPM mall, and now, after a lengthy delay, Kabb’s Jing’an Kerry Center branch is open for business. It features the classic loungirific interior as the other outlets with a spacious upstairs or private parties, and a courtyard for big bashes. Menu is identical with all the signatures from the eggs benedict with homemade hollandaise sauce to its highly-touted grill offerings. One major addition, which will go into effect at all Kabb outlets in the coming weeks, is a new cocktail menu featuring specialty creations like “The Spice Girl” with Olmeca Gold, red chili, pineapple and lime juice, and “The Astronaut”; Smirnoff Red Vodka, Bacardi Superior, lemon juice, and passion fruit syrup. They’re also brainstorming a line of tea drinks like a Tea Cappuccino which uses a specialty South African Ground Tea (it imitates coffee grounds), and a new “bar bites” menu as well.

Tock’s won’t be open late night: Unfortunately, contrary to what we reported last week, Tock’s Montreal Deli will not be open late night 1:30-4:30am due to landlord/staffing issues. But fear not, intoxicated expat hordes returning from Bund, for your favorite sandwich shop may be able to satisfy your late night drunk munchies (drunchies?) in the near future once they get everything sorted.
