More than 10,000 migrant workers’ trips home for Spring Festival will be made a bit easier this year, as Sinopec has announced that anyone traveling home via motorbike can refill their tanks for free. Sinopec was in dire need of a PR boost following the Qingdao gas explosion in November, and this may be enough to clean up their image.
According to the China Daily, Sinopec stations will essentially turn into free-everything-love-migrant stations, offering “a gift package which includes biscuits, cake, instant noodles, bottled water, medicine and a raincoat,” in addition to free fuel along the route.
The giveaways start on January 23rd, and will last throughout the Spring Festival travel time. Workers must register online to enroll in the program. Be as cynical as you’d like about Sinopec’s gross incompetence in the past, this is still a damn nice thing to do.
