A man coming from Hong Kong was caught trying to smuggle four kilograms of gold bars into the mainland through his sneakers after customs officers noticed his nervous behavior and ‘labored gait’.
The man, who was stopped by Luohu district officers in Shenzhen, had only declared two cans of milk powder when he tried crossing the border, failing to mention the four one-kilogram gold bars worth more than a million yuan wrapped under his insoles.
According to Ecns.cn, this is the first time smuggled goods worth 1 million yuan have been stopped by Luohu customs this year. The case is being handed off to local anti-smuggling department for further investigation.
If this teaches us anything it’s that if you’re going to take a stroll through customs with a million yuan worth of gold bars in your shoes you better goddamn OWN IT.
Also, we’d like to take this moment to say that when gold bar insoles and a ‘labored gait’ become the next trend we forecasted it first.
