Police in Hong Kong arrested 86 people after discovering secret brothels that had been converted from toilets and a shop in a Yuen Long shopping center, according to police.
The 15-square-foot brothels were found on the second floor of a 15-storey shopping in Wang Fat Path, according police. Two seventh-floor units turned into brothels were also discovered in the same building. Most of the other shops in the mall were vacated.
According to police, the brothels had been operating for about 10 months and were controlled by the Yuen Long faction of the 14K triad society, which recruited mainland women to work as prostitutes.
“We believe the gang took advantage of this feature and converted the male and female toilets into vice establishments,” Chief Inspector Law Kwok-hoi of the New Territories North regional crime unit said.
“I think it is the first time police have discovered public toilets have been turned into brothels,” he said.
Investigations of surveillance footage showed that up to 100 customers were visiting the seven brothels every day, paying HK$250 for sex services, and the chief inspector estimated that the gang took in around HK$300,000 a month from the business.
In December of last year, police also took down a vice racket in Hong Kong raking in over 60 million HKD running Hong Kong’s biggest porn website Sex 141. The cool, swift hand of justice strikes again.
