Traffic police in Dezhou, Shandong province seized an agricultural tricycle carrying 12 people ready to travel from Tianjin to Anhui for Spring Festival, showing what incredible (and uncomfortable) measures some will go through to get home during the holiday rush.
Some of the travelers followed traffic police to a hotel downtown, while others people didn’t want to get off. They had traveled about a quarter of the trip when they arrived in Dezhou and planned to stop the vehicle and have a mea but were interrupted by police.
“These kind of vehicles are not allowed for carrying people, if there were an accident, the people inside would find it hard to escape.” traffic officer Du Dejun said.
The traffic police on duty contacted the local hotel for them and five police cars were set out to escort them to the hotel.
The Spring Festival is China’s most important holiday for family reunions and many will go to all extents to bring their family members home. Earlier this month we reported that mother from Guangzhou purchased an entire front page of a Melbourne newspaper urging her son to come home for the holiday.
Unfortunately, agricultural tricycle or not, travel conditions for the expected 3.62 billion trips to be made during Chunyun are not necessarily cozy, especially for migrant workers.
