Independent Chinese film director Zhao Dayong has released the trailer for his newest film Shadow Days which will premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival in 10 days.

Gui ri zi (Shadow Days) by Zhao Dayong, China / Hong Kong. WP. Renwei returns to his rural hometown with his pregnant girlfriend in tow, where his uncle the mayor enforces the one-child policy with violent fervour. As Renwei gets caught up in the brutal operations, his relationship runs into difficulties.
Zhao’s is among eight Asian films announced in Berlin’s International Forum of New Cinema. His previous works include the documentaries Street Life (2006) and Ghost Town (2008), both highly recognized in the international film circuit.
The film was shot in Zhiziluo, located on the mountains in Yunnan province. Zhao put together a pretty cool solo exhibition of photography set in the abandoned town, called Fables in a Chinese Ghost Town.
