Tired of hearing all those jokes making light of foreign English teachers in China as unqualified scumbags? Well, here’s another one for you: The following music video, ‘Super English Teacher’, sang by a Shenzhen-based American known only as The Fred, does pretty much nothing at all to improve the image of those who make the journey across the Pacific Pond to teach their native language in China.
Set to the tune of Curtis Mayfield’s classic track “Superfly”, “Super English Teacher” lampoons (or laments?) the situation of a “slacker by trade” who divides his time between teaching little kids numbers and getting his balls massaged on Chicken Street.
Over and over, The Fred sings desperately: “He need a visa…”
