The former mayor of Nanjing, Ji Jianye, has been expelled from the Communist Party after an investigation revealed that he received ‘a huge amount of money’ in bribes, was ‘morally corrupt,’ and likely has as many skeletons in his closet as anyone nicknamed ‘Bulldozer Ji’ would expect.
Ji was removed from his position as mayor way back in October, after serving (and/or pilfering) for four years. Early reports indicated that he may have been involved in “economic crimes” valuing up to 20 million yuan, but details were sparse.
Now that Ji has received the Party boot, more details are starting to emerge. He reportedly “took advantage of his position to seek benefits for others [and] received a huge amount of money and gifts either by himself or through family members” and likely took advantage of state funds via corrupt construction projects (see: the “Bulldozer” nickname).
Expulsion from the party is a typical precursor to criminal charges, and a sign that Ji Jianye is extremely, extraordinarily, screwed.
