This year’s Spring Festival Gala featured a magic show with some guy named Yif, and Chinese internet users are not impressed, no matter how many loaves of bread he can magically pull from thin air and/or some pipe.
Yif, formerly known as Wang Yifeng, was born in Beijing and grew up in France. He became famous after his 2012 “YIF Art of Magic” documentary video gained more than one hundred million views online. He was also famous for his unique magic tricks and his charming appearances.
However, in last night’s performance, something wasn’t quite right. “It doesn’t have to play in slow motion,” some internet users said, after spotting Yif’s poorly-hidden bread tube (about 37 seconds into the video). Apparently the pipe should have been cropped out of the shot, but instead hit the camera front-and-center.
The mistakes went on: when Yif held up a “single” 100 yuan bill, internet users spotted a second hiding behind it. Some complained “We miss Liu Qian,” last year’s magic performer.
Yif admits his performance had some flaws and said, “I was not satisfied with my performance, either. but I hope it is not just a magic show, I also want to pass on a feeling of family reunion dinner.”
While some Weibo users have been criticizing Yif, others say that the magic show was enjoyable and that people should stop being dicks and simply enjoy the show.
