Traffic cops who stopped a man on an expressway discovered that he had been walking for nine whole days to get back to his home in Chongqing for Spring Festival, according to Xinhua.
The man, a Zhongxian county native, decided to take the route by foot as he was low on travel money. Reports say that he was stopped by police last week, 100 kilometers short of making it home.
Police said that the man made a living picking up scrap and reselling it Guizhou province, but the work was not lucrative enough to get him home for the approaching Spring Festival. He only had 200 yuan to his name, not enough for a transportation ticket.
He walked most of the way and was occasionally offered free rides, he told cops. The police bought him a bus ticket for the remainder of his trip home.
This year we’ve seen people traveling on horseback, bicycle and even crammed in the loading areas of agricultural tricycles to make it home for the Spring Festival, China’s most important holiday for family reunions.
