Members of the Chinese Curling team posed for pictures with their cellphones after the flag-raising ceremony at the Olympic Village in Sochi, Russia yesterday, where the 22nd Winter Olympics will kick off tomorrow.
Xi Jinping arrived in Sochi today, making Russia the president’s first foreign visit of the Lunar New Year. His appearance at the Olympic opening ceremony also marks first attendance by a Chinese president at a major overseas sports event, a move predicted to further strengthen Sino-Russian ties.
We sincerely hope Xi wasn’t subjected to the same bee horrors as these Olympic game visitors.
Authorities are apparently increasingly confident about the safety of Sochi during the Olympic games, although some US officials are warning airlines flying into Russia about the potential threat of explosive toothpaste tubes, according to CNN.
The concern about the use of toothpaste tubes is mostly focused on flights from Europe and neighboring Asian countries — in part because the United States has less intelligence-sharing with those nations.
