Tuck Shop Pies: Every year more culinary niches are being filled in Shanghai. Last year it was Montreal smoked meats, and this year it’s gourmet Australian and New Zealand savory pies from Tuck Shop Pies, a startup by a couple of Kiwis who missed their native fare. For the laymen out there, “the Kiwi/Aussie pie is made with puff pastry on top and shortcrust pastry on the bottom, the filling is always savory, such as steak and mushroom or lamb and mint, chicken and leek or bacon and egg. For those British expats who miss their famous ‘pot pies’, it’s the same idea but with more pastry.”
Tuck Shop’s pies are scratch-made with New Zealand Butter, free-range eggs, veg from the Avocado Lady, and meat from Carrefour. Flavors include “The BP” with chicken curry, the “Pub” with steak and mushroom, the “Sloppy Joe” with mince and cheese, and the “Rugby Brekkie” with bacon, egg, and cheese.

Steal of a deal at Uo Kura: While the Hongqiao outlet of this esteemed Japanese joint prospers, the Sinan Mansions spot is reportedly floundering due to its poor location. To combat this, Uo Kura is offering including a ten-course spread for a charitable 530RMB! Delicacies include Seiko snow crab, braised abalone, sake boiled monkfish liver, snow crab egg custard served in a crab shell, arrowroot egg tofu with truffles, deep fried monkfish, sea eel chirashi, and more.

Pelham’s lunch menus: Pelham’s at the Waldorf Astoria has introduced a haute lunch tasting set with a choice of two to five courses (218RMB, 278RMB, 338RMB and 398RMB).
