Six people were killed and two more injured after a Chinese fishing boat off the Japanese coast went up in flames on Friday, officials from the Chinese Consulate General in Fukuoka told Xinhua.
The boat caught fire some 280 kilometers northwest of Amami Island, Kagoshima Prefecture, according to the officials, around 2:20 p.m. local time. There are still 20 more crew members on board.
One of the passengers who was seriously wounded was picked up and taken to a hospital by a Chinese boat after the PLA navy received a distress signal. The fishing boat will return to China with the bodies of the six deceased members.
