Seafood, or food at all for that matter, isn’t the first thing that springs to mind when you think of the DPRK. However, North Korean seafood is becoming increasingly popular in China due to its relative cleanliness compared to Chinese specimens.
North Korean seafood has a relatively clean reputation, at least compared to anything else in the DPRK (snap).
Seafood imports have benefited the downtrodden Jilin Province, which borders the DPRK and houses approximately two-million Koreans. Some speculate that the Sino-North Korean seafood trade could prevent the DPRK from collapsing in the future.
