A man in Songjiang district has been sentenced to three years in prison after he severely beat a man following a fight between their pet dogs, a press release from the Songjiang District People’s Prosecutor’s office said on Sunday.
The defendant, surnamed Zhou, was charged with intentional assault for attacking his neighbor Zhu with a weapon, according to the press release.
Prosecutors said that on August 6, the two men’s dogs got into a scuffle on the street, and when it seemed like his pet was losing, Zhu hit Zhou’s dog with a rod to scare it off.
The two men began arguing and when the fight got physical, onlookers separated them. Zhou’s wife had also been at the scene, and when the couple returned home, she claimed that Zhu had tried to hit her with a stool.
Zhou went to Zhu’s home and beat him with a weapon, causing severe injuries to the man. Zhou reportedly did not stop striking his neighbor until police arrived, leaving him with a fractured scull and other serious internal injuries.
