We reported a few days ago that authorities in Sanya, apparently tired of the long-standing tradition of seeing middle-aged man bits on the beach every spring, had asked local bathers to cover up. While many has assumed that the enforcement was carried out by a handful of local chengguan, we had apparently underestimated how severely authorities were going to crack-down, as these photos of camo-clad cops swarming the beach can attest.
Instead of, say, sending out one man to approach each middle-aged beach-goer and politely ask him to cover-up, authorities treated this like they were busting down the walls of a cult compound. Dozens of cops, video cameras, and papers can be seen throughout the beach, as well as a camo-covered encampment where law enforcers can stake-out the beach and make sure every speedo stays where it belongs.
This must be a slow month for Sanya’s crime-fighting teams.
