A woman in Guangzhou gave birth to an exceptionally large baby by c-section in a local hospital on February 12. The newborn, coming in at a whopping 7 kilograms, appears to be at least a couple of months old, leading to doctors affectionately nicknaming the chubby baby “xiao pang” (little fatty).
According to the Guinness World Records, the world’s heaviest newborn baby was born in 1955 in Italy, weight 20.4 kg.
Last December, a 27 year-old mother in Shanghai gave birth to a 6.17kg boy who, at the time, was considered one of China’s biggest babies ever born.
The mother attributed the baby’s size, twice as large as the average newborn, to a hearty diet of milk, eggs, and fruit, along with lots of time in bed.
