A 63-year-old Good Samaritan surnamed Chen was frustrated when he’d returned 27,000 yuan to a bank after a mix-up and received only a simple mug as a ‘reward’ for his honest deed.
Two days ago, Chen reportedly went to the bank and asked for 3,000 yuan, but the staff behind the counter apparently gave him 30,000 by mistake. After realizing what happened, Chen returned the extra 27,000 yuan on the spot, but after he got home, his friends told him that he was a fool and that he should’ve asked for a reward.
Chen returned to the bank, hinting to the the manager that he should buy him a drink.
Sort of taking the hint, the manager gave him a mug as a thank-you gift.
“I have lots of mugs actually,” Chen said, “Could you give me something more pragmatic?” He pointed the other gifts displayed in the bank. He had his eye on an electric cooker.
“No sorry, that’s for customers who have large deposits,” the manager said.
Depressed and defeated, Chen went home to check online how much the mug is worth. Turns out, a whopping 6.5 yuan.
