A 48-year-old Taiwan woman checked herself into the hospital after experiencing a severe ear-ache. Upon removing her hearing aid, doctors discovered a fruit fly maggot nesting in her ear canal.
The maggot retreating down the ear canal. The woman, Cheng-Ping, stated that her frequent hearing aid use made her ear numb, so the larvae could have been there for more than a day without her noticing.
Fruit flies often congregate around fruit left in the open, and don’t generally reside in people’s orifices. Experts speculate Cheng’s ear provided a warm, cozy refuge from the cold (clearly). We’ll assume it became inspired after catching an episode of Monsters Inside Me.
Fortunately, doctors extracted the critter without incident, but not before shooting this revolting video. Watch/gawk below.
Pretty disgusting, but in the realm of critter-invading-orifice stories, it still doesn’t hold a candle to the one about the eel that swam up a guy’s anus in Guangdong.
