While some are more than eager to splash out lavish amounts of money to win the hearts of their beloved in the run-up to Valentine’s Day, a man from Zhuhai district in Guangzhou attempted to ask his ex-girlfriend for money that he had spent on condoms during the four months that they had been together, according to a report from Nandu.com. Swoon.
Last year, the man had wanted to take the matter up before the Zhuhai city court, demanding a payment totalling the astonishingly dismal figure of 100 yuan from his ex, half of the total sum. To further prove his case, he even printed screenshots of purchase records on Taobao, recounted a judge from the court.
Over the past year, the Zhuhai city court has seen seven cases of couples demanding compensation for expenses incurred during the dating period after their break-ups. Judges have noted that it is difficult for the plaintiff to secure such compensation as such expenses were originally intended as gifts of love during the dating period.
However the plaintiff withdrew his accusation before the day of the actual court hearing (it took him that longto be eventually struck by the pure ludicrousness of his plan), with the judge noting that this action was advisable since such a claim was made with neither sound morals or on a legal basis.
