A Guizhou male surnamed Zhou was sentenced to five years in prison after he sold his own son in order to raise money to enter a talent show.
Last year, Zhou entered to sing on a talent show but failed to make it to the final round after blowing his money on application and transportation fees. The man, who was very passionate about singing but low on funds, decided that the best option was to sell his own child for cash to enter more shows.
Zhou posted on the internet that he wanted to sell his four-month-old son because his wife ran away and he was unable to raise the child on his own. A woman surnamed Wang responded to the post, and after a few rounds of negotiation, he sold his son for 10,000 yuan.
When Zhou’s wife discovered her son was missing, she called police and Zhou was tracked down by police shortly after.
Local courts have recently sentenced him to five years of prison under kidnapping charges.
