A man in Shenzhen, Guangdong province who was fed-up with loud traffic noise around his home decided to address the situation by scattering steel nails all over a nearby road, leading to a number passing cars experiencing punctured tires and near-accidents.
The Global Times reports that the man, surnamed Wu, was recently sentenced to three years in prison by the Nanshang District People’s Court in Shenzhen for endangering public security with his stunt.
Wu lives near a viaduct that sees a steady flow of traffic every day, and he says that the noise always keeps him awake at night. Wu claims that he tried telling drivers to slow down, but nothing improved.
That’s why he started making nails and putting them in the middle or sides of the road back in 2012 and has apparently kept up the activity ever since.
The stunt has resulted in a series of blow outs for heavy trucks, buses and cars driving on the road.
Recently, a driver surnamed Cao lost control of his car as he was passing through the road and both his left tires were punctured by the nails. A truck driver surnamed Xiao told reporters that he had to swerve out of the way to avoid Cao’s car and also experienced tire punctures from the nails.
