WildAid, in partnership with the African Wildlife Foundation, launched a new public service announcement featuring Jackie Chan that targets ivory consumption as part of a campaign to reduce the demand for endangered species products.
WildAid’s demand reduction campaign, airing globally with targeted outreach in China and Vietnam, has previously featured stars such as Yao Ming, David Beckham, Prince William and Maggie Q advocating the protection of wild animals.
While ivory trafficking and illegal poaching continues to be a huge issue in the country, Chan believes that Chinese attitudes towards buying illegal wildlife products like rhino horn and ivory are undergoing a “big change”.
“I think China’s government and people, everybody knows we need to do the right thing. With 1.4 billion people, if everyone had a piece of ivory…we must stop.”
