China’s short track speed skater Zhou Yang took the gold medal and defended her 1,500 meters Olympic title during Saturday’s final at the Sochi Winter Games.
This is the third gold medal for the 22-year-old, who won two in Vancouver four years ago. Shim Suk-hee of South Korea won the silver meal and Ariana Fontana from Italy received the bronze in the race at the Iceberg Skating Palace, AFP reports.
Dutch skater Jorien ted Morse came in fourth and China’s Li Jianrou along with South Korea’s Kim Alang and American Emily Scott all fell down midway through the race.
Li Jianrou won China’s first gold medal in the Sochi Olympic Winter Games on Thursday, finishing first in the women’s 500 meters for short track speed skating after every single skater except for Li crashed mid-race.
Short Track skater Han Tianyu won China’s first medal at the Games, capturing silver in the 1,500 meter final on February 10.
