A Ningbo woman crafted these precious little tangyuan to promote Zhejiang’s special variety made with pork lard. As you can see, 62 of them can fit on an 18-millimeter one-fen coin.
Tangyuan are made from glutinous rice flour and filled with a variety of sweet and savory fillings. They’re commonly consumed during the Lantern Festival because their roundness embodies the family unity that characterizes the holiday.
These particular specimens contain sweet black sesame paste, which had to be stuffed in with a sharp bamboo stick.
