The story of backpacker from Shaanxi who traveled around 5 Southeast Asian countries, hitting up more than ten cities in 27 days with only 4,000 yuan, a camera, a backpack and very little amount of English words, has inspired netizens across the web.
Sun Shu spent 1,000 yuan on food, 2,000 yuan on accommodations and 2,000 for transportation (he earned an extra 1,000 yuan by performing in the streets during his travels).
“I just closed my eyes and spun a globe, my finger landed on Malaysia so I bought a ticket and took off,” he said. On January 20, he set out from Shanxi to Malaysia, and began his southeast Asian tour.
Sun visited Malaysia’s Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Kuala Lumpur and Malacca then headed to Male in Maldives before traveling to New Delhi in India, Sri Lanka’s Colombo and Kandy and finally, Brunei.
“I have been in Malaysia to conquer the world’s most dangerous cableway; saw the most spectacular sunset; stepped over the most beautiful beach in Maldives; rode the elephants that once beat out Alexander and even hung out on the outside of the train with the local people in India…this is what I get from this trip” Sun said.
