More than 300 Beijing residents took part in the third annual ‘Naked Pig Run’ over the weekend, a semi-nude racing event held in the city’s Olympic Forest Park that attracted Spiderman costumes, old people, young people, face masks and lots’o flesh against a smoggy backdrop.
The race was first organized in 2012 to promote a healthy lifestyle and to bring people closer to nature, so some opted to take the animalistic approach.
As the the National Meteorological Center issued a yellow alert for smog in the city, some showed up wearing face masks and some were surprisingly unaffected by the pollution.
“I didn’t feel unwell after running,” a participant named Meng was quoted as saying in a China Daily article. “I run regularly and will not stop when there is haze. I think I have become used to the haze.”
