We would have thought that yesterday’s ‘mother leaves infant in train toilet‘ would top our Worst Parents of the Year list, but that might not even be the worst parent of the week: introducing the Henan parents who have sold three of their children since 2008.
The couple lives in Hengyang City, Hunan. The husband was arrested in September 2013, and is currently in jail, but his wife was only captured earlier this week. Zhang, the 24-year-old female half of the China’s most dysfunctional couple, was arrested in an internet cafe, while pregnant with her sixth child.
Zhang met her boyfriend, Wang, in 2006 when she was 16 and he was 19-years-old. They gave a birth to a son the following year, and had a second son in November, 2008. They were running seriously low on cash, so they, you know, sold their second child for 6,000 yuan to a Changsha couple when he was six months old.
Less than a year later, in October 2009, Zhang had a third son and—of course—sold him for 20,000 yuan to a local couple. In September 2012 they sold another child—because using condoms is for squares—for 10,000 yuan. At this point, Zhang’s father turned them into the police, because that’s just getting ridiculous. The couple fled, but were eventually caught.
Two of the children have been rescued by the police, while one is still missing. Selling a child is certainly better than, say, dumping it in the garbage, but treating one’s uterus as a source of funds and selling humans to the highest local bidder is, well, probably a little immoral.
