A man suspected of starting the bus fire that killed six people and injured dozens more in Guiyang, Guizhou province was arrested on Friday, provincial police told Xinhua.
Shanghai Daily reports that the man, surnamed Su, “took revenge on society” when he lit up a barrel of gasoline on the bus, causing it to burst into flames.
Yesterday we reported that the fire broke out around 1 p.m. as the bus was passing a primary school, resulting in the death of five people.
New reports say the death toll is now at six, including a four-month-old boy, and 35 others were injured.
The fire spread so quickly that many people failed to notice emergency hammers used to smash the bus windows open and escape, according to survivor accounts.
The injured, one in critical condition, are now being hospitalized.
