US First Lady Michelle Obama will be heading to China in about two weeks, where she will kick-back with wife-of-Xi Peng Liyuan, visit some schools, see some pandas, and ‘post a daily travel blog.’ This is diplomacy at its highest levels.
Michelle was slated to meet Peng during Obama and Xi’s California meet-up in June, but missed the opportunity due to some complications in Washington. Now, the two first ladies will finally meet face-to-face, which is apparently exciting. Michelle will be accompanied by her two daughters, while Peng and Xi’s child remains a mystery hidden away somewhere in American higher education.
Mama-Obama is set to land in Beijing on March 19th and stay for a few days before heading to Chengdu. According to the White House press release, “the First Lady will be focusing on the power and importance of education, both in her own life and in the lives of young people in both countries,” and will visit high schools in Beijing and Chengdu, as well as a yet-unnamed Beijing university.
Interested readers (there have to be at least a few, right?) can sign-up to read the First Lady’s travel blog here. With any luck, it will end up censored for Chinese readers.
