A People’s Daily reporter became a story herself after she wore Google Glass fancy smart-glasses to a National People’s Conference earlier today (you can just see the glasses above her black shades in the photo above). The reporter was circled by other, lamer, journalists, fascinated by the device.
Oddly enough, Google Glass is currently only sold in the United States, and for the steep price-tag of US$1,500. How a People’s Daily reporter was able to snag a pair is one question, and another would be whether or not Glass functions within China. Google doesn’t have the friendliest relationship with the People’s Republic, and it would be surprising if Glass’s apps—which are Google at its purest—work within the Great Firewall.
It wouldn’t be out of the question, and actually would make a lot of sense, if the reporter bought her “Google Glass” from a small stand outside a Beijing subway station that also sells rabbit-ear iPhone cases and bootleg SIM cards. In other words, they may a “Gloogle Gass! Super Real!” knock-off.
