UH-OH. A 30-year-old man allegedly defaced the iconic portrait of Mao overlooking Tiananmen Square in Beijing yesterday, according to a staff member at the scene, who said that someone poured ink on the portrait’s right bottom corner.
Immediately after the suspect poured ink on the portrait, a group of police (along with the armed police) rushed to the scene to dispel visitors. Police also blocked off the site from visitors for up to 200 meters.
The suspected vandal was captured by police.
