A student from Huihua University in Huihua District, Hunan, was allegedly stabbed to death in the girls’ dormitory by her ex-boyfriend on Sunday, according to Weibo posts which have been circulating around after her family appealed to the Internet for justice to be meted out to the suspected murderer.
The Weibo post, which appeared to have been written by the victim’s sister, recounted that the victim was a vivacious and gentle girl who was active in the university’s dance troupe. The couple had first gotten together in 2012, but the boyfriend began to become insecure and suspicious of the victim towards the end of last year when she returned home for the holidays and kicked up a big fuss. Unable to take it anymore, she told him that she wanted a break-up.
He then hired a private investigator to find out about her activities and travelled to her family home to harass her, where he first stabbed her on her thigh. However, he pleaded for forgiveness from her parents and they decided to let the incident, which required ten stitches and a month of healing, go unreported.
On Sunday evening, the victim took the train back to Huihua University, where she had dinner with her friends before returning back to her hostel. Her ex suddenly entered the hostel and demanded to see the girl, and when she refused to he began threatening her room-mates by saying, “If you don’t leave, I’ll kill you all as well”. Frightened, two of her three room-mates left the room, but the remaining one who was closest to the victim only ran out of the room and called the victim’s aunt when she saw that the suspect had taken his knife out.
The victim was stabbed a total of 21 times, with three deep cuts across her stomach and 17 of them across her chest. During the incident, which lasted for 17 minutes, no one intervened despite the security outpost being only four to five metres away. When the murderer was done with the stabbing, he allegedly simply just walked out of the hostel. The victim was rushed to the hospital half an hour later when she was found, but died at the hospital due to her heavy injuries.
This incident has since been confirmed by the Huihua Police Department in a statement released on Thursday. Police investigations are ongoing and if convicted, the murderer will be severely punished by law.
