Yeung Ki, a mainlander living in Hong Kong, is facing the region’s High Court after she killed her boyfriend in late 2012. Zhou Hui, the deceased ex, had beaten Yueng and her four-year-old daughter and then raped Yueng after a dispute over some money. Yueng promptly drugged him, cut off his penis, flushed it down the toilet, and beat him to death with a hammer.
Zhou was apparently angry after Yueng refused to give him HK$200,000 (158,000 yuan) to buy a car. She had already lent him some HK$158,000 (125,000 yuan) which he never paid back, and Zhou had been—how to describe someone who was secretly married the whole time?—a bit flakey.
When Yueng refused to give him more money, the situation spiraled out of control, as SCMP reports:
Zhou told [Yueng] that he had nude pictures of her which he would post on the internet unless she gave him HK$200,000. He beat her, pushed her to the floor, and slapped their daughter.
During the fight, the girl was sent out to the balcony, after which Zhou had sex with Yeung.
[After drugging him] Yeung said that after he fell asleep she cut off his penis with a pair of scissors.
Wakened by the pain, Zhou started beating her and as they fought, she saw a hammer and grabbed it to bash him in the face.
The trial is still on-going in Hong Kong, where Yueng has expressed some remorse about the castration (she called it “cruel”), but word is still out on whether this will be considered murder or self-defense.
