A woman from Zhejiang province who allegedly tried to end her own life on the night of March 6 by jumping off a bridge into a river woke up 300 kilometers upstream in a different province with no memory of what had happened, according to news portal Xiandai Kuaibao.
An elderly woman who was selling breakfast in the city of Taizhou reportedly saw the 37-year-old woman appear on the street around 5:00 a.m. barefoot, soaking wet and wearing only a blue sweater. When the street vendor asked what happened, Dong couldn’t remember, only saying that she couldn’t find her way home.
When police came to question Dong, she eventually told them that her husband had been beating her because he thought she was having an affair, leading her to drive to the local river and jump in.
Police found a phone number for Dong’s family, 300 kilometers away in in Zhejiang. Her relatives said they’d been searching for the woman for two days straight, and had lost hope that she was still alive after finding her down-jacket by the river. They added that she’d tried to kill herself before by carbon monoxide poisoning.
A group of Dong’s family members arrived at the police station to pick her up, after which Dong’s memory finally came-to. She said she’d been saved by someone in a boat who told her “We are now at Hailing, Taizhou, the condition is good here, someone is sure to help you.”
