Four Sichuan men are in custody after they poisoned some 50,000 kg (110,230 pounds) of fish with pesticide, in the laziest and most dangerous attempt at “fishing” since that Jiading guy tried to catch fish by electrifying his local river.
The poisoning took place a few weeks ago, on February 20, but the men have just now been arrested after fleeing Sichuan. The four friends reportedly poured two bottles of pesticide into a river near Chuandong village, and hung out for more than an hour, waiting for their fish to pop up. When none appeared, they assumed their pesticides were too weak and promptly poured another seven bottles into the water.
The pesticides took some time to take effect (i.e. to kill everything) but once they started, it quickly got out of control. When the men saw some 50,000 kg of fish begin to bob in the water and wash up on shore, they realized they had slightly over-poisoned, and fled the area.
One assumes that, well, fish poisoned with pesticide are probably not the safest to eat. These men came incredibly close to Darwin Awards contestants, but instead just became the worst fishermen of all time.
