A passenger ‘in a hurry’ at Beijing International Airport was detained for five days after telling airport security officers that he had a bomb in his rectum. He did not.
The man was apparently complaining about the slow speed of the security checks, when he said, “Do I need to drop my pants as well? I have a bomb in my ass.” A security officer asked him to repeat himself, the man did so, and then everyone freaked the hell out.
Obviously a joke? Maybe, but everybody is a little on edge right now after the mysterious disappearance of MH370, and Beijing International was exactly where angry wheel-chair bomber Ji Zhongxing attempted to blow himself up last summer.
The man’s comment led to a partial lock-down of Beijing International, with passengers evacuated to other areas of the airport. The man was thoroughly searched (one can only imagine that process) before authorities were confident that he may be an idiot, but not a terrorist.
According to the South China Morning Post, “the man told officers he was angry because he thought the security checks were a waste of time and he never anticipated the consequences of his remarks.”
