Another day, another gigantic baby born in China. This rotund bundle of joy weighed 6.25 kilograms upon delivery (a c-section, thank god for mom) at a hospital in Changchun, Jilin province on March 18.
The baby is the second child of a 36-year-old mother who underwent a cesarean section 10 days ahead of the due date, according to China Daily. The baby weighs as much as an average 3-month-old infant.
A 27-year-old woman in Shanghai gave birth to a 6.17 kg baby last December, one of the biggest babies ever born in the city. The mother attributed the newborn’s size to a hearty diet of milk eggs and fruit, although doctors said the infant could face health problems later on.
“Obesity may affect the baby’s health in the future. Rates of obesity and diabetes are obviously higher for an adolescent or an adult who was born overweight,” said Xu Chang’en, associate chief physician of the obstetrics department.
The world’s heaviest newborn baby was born in Italy, weighing in at 10.2 kg (22 lb 8 oz), according to the Guinness World Records.
