A Shanghai playboy was charged with fraud on Thursday after he’d managed to steal iPhones from seven different “girlfriends” he met on WeChat, according to Shanghai Daily.
In one instance, the 26-year-old man surnamed Feng had kindled a steamy online romance with a 20-year-old woman surnamed Cai after meeting her on the messaging app WeChat in September 2012. When the two met up, Feng asked Cai if he could borrow her iPhone4S and soon ran off with it.
The Jiading District Prosecutors’ Office also disclosed that Feng had dated another woman, surnamed Guo, and tricked her into giving him her iPhone4 before disappearing with it.
When Feng was eventually captured by the cops, he admitted that he’d stolen seven iPhones from seven different so-called “girlfriends” through his wily tricks. Police estimated that the phones had a combined value of more than 10,000 yuan (1,610 USD).
Add this to the list of reasons to never start a love affair through messaging apps, right after “you might accidentally date your own daughter” and “possibly get killed“.
