A 34-year-old man was arrested today after stabbing six people to death with a knife at a village in the Huairou district of Beijing, Xinhua reports.
Police received a call at 12:48 p.m. and arrested the knife-wielding suspect surnamed Zhao after he allegedly attacked a number of people in Wanghua Village. The stabbings followed a family property dispute, according to a statement issued by the Beijing Municipal Public Security bureau.
The number of wounded people and the extent of their injuries is not yet known.
Family members said that Zhao had a history of mental illness, but police are still investigating the case.
The news follows a recent string of knife attacks including the stabbing spree in Kunming that was carried out by “Xinjiang separatist forces” earlier this month, shaking all of China.
Weeks after, at least three people were killed and one more injured during a knife attack at a Changsha grocery market, reportedly triggered by an argument between vendors and residents.
