Joining the likes of Jeremy Lin, the Backstreet Boys and other relatively notable names before them, US First Lady Michelle Obama and her crew took a trip to Chengdu’s Giant Panda Research Base in Sichuan yesterday to feed some panda cubs and exercise some good ol’ soft diplomacy on new levels.
FLOTUS along with her mother and two daughters, Sasha and Malia, viewed a 22-year-old grandmother panda named Lili as well as five panda cubs, according to staff at the research base.
The First Lady and her mother helped feed the pandas using a long stick with some apples attached, pretty lame stuff considering BSB actually got to croon to the things while they casually sat on their laps and gnawed on bamboo.
This panda base visit was yet another stop on the family’s week-long trip to China, wherein the First Lady took her hand at ping pong, practiced some tai chi and delivered speeches focused on education and cultural exchanges between the two countries, generally steering away from politics but continually managing to show off her incredible arm strength.
