Michelle Obama’s visit to Yutianyu, a small Beijing eatery, was apparently such a hit that they created a “First Lady Special” with noodles, simmered pork and vegetarian dumplings in her honor. And it’s selling like hotcakes/”Xi Jinping Dumplings”.
Obama isn’t the first political figure to inspire a hit dish in China. Xi Jinping created buzz several months back when he visited Qingfeng Steamed Dumplings, prompting customers to take pictures of his meal of buns stuffed with pork, onions and green vegetables and post them on the internet. Shortly thereafter, over 500 people flocked to the store for Xi’s “special dumplings.”
And now, a Chengdu hotpot restaurant that hosted British Prime Minister David Cameron during his stay in China is now offering an 888-yuan (145 USD) set meal that includes all the dishes he ordered.
And who can forget Obama Fried Chicken, inspired by none other than Flotus’ hubby. Yeah, that didn’t go over quite as well with some…….
