Chinese internet users have once again had their thirst for all things Peng Liyuan-related satisfied after photos have emerged, revealing the humble local brand Nubio as the First Lady’s smartphone of choice.
Peng, who first garnered internet appraisal during her debut as the First Lady of China, has continued to attract attention from spectators. “The Peng effect” has been working its magic from thrusting local fashion designer Ma Ke into the spotlight with her impeccable style to promoting Chinese cosmetic brands overseas with her babin’ good looks.
A photo which emerged of the First Lady taking photos on her smartphone on Saturday sparked curiosity amongst netizens. It was soon revealed that it was actually one-year-old Chinese brand Nubia Z5 mini.
Bad news for Peng lovers: the phone is no longer on sale after being replaced by newer models, but that hasn’t stopped Nubia from seizing upon free advertising. The local brand posted the photo of Peng on their official Weibo account with the comment: “the Chinese dream starts from Chinese-made,” a play on President’s Xi’s newest (most ambiguous) catchphrase.
From hitting them high notes, being a sneaky hipster, christening tulips to promoting women’s education, Peng’s already made a name for herself as one of the most present First Ladies China’s seen yet. So take it down a notch, Peng.
