A headmaster at a Hebei kindergarten and another man were sentenced to death after poisoning two students from a rival school last year over a feud.
The Associated Press reports that the headmaster was upset that the rival school had better enrollments, and injected rat poison into a bottle of yogurt.
He asked his accomplice to place the yogurt, a notebook and a pencil in a plastic bag on a route children take to get to the other kindergarten.
Two sisters died after drinking the yogurt on their way to school late April 2013.
According to CCTV, the Shijiazhuang Intermediate People’s Court in northern China found both men guilty of poisoning and they have been sentenced to death.
Months later in Hunan province, a 34-year-old woman was arrested after she had allegedly injected rat poison into yogurt containers before delivering them to students outside of a primary school. Nineteen students were hospitalized but none faced life-threatening conditions.
Just last month, a kindergarten in Xi’an, Shaanxi province was closed down after parents accused teachers of giving antiviral drugs to students for over two years without consent, sickening them.
