Recent pictures show the panda cub Yuanzai and her mom Tuan Tuan from China alive and well at the Taipei Zoo days after a poorly received April Fool’s Day prank video by Next Media claimed the latter panda was going to be euthanized because of a parasite infection.
The story said that Taiwan’s beloved panda Yuan Yuan had been infected by parasitic nematode worms and that experts believed she passed them on to Tuan Tuan and their cub Yuanzai.
The fake report apparently didn’t go over well with Taipe’s mayor Hua Lung-bin, who couldn’t grapple the concept of such a sick, sick joke. “We don’t know the motive of the story,” he said. “The joke has been taken too far.”
Damn straight it did.
