Urumqi police have seized hundreds of imitation guns and hundreds of thousands of bullets in an utterly bizarre raid in Xinjiang. The replica guns are illegal because ‘they could have posed risks,’ according to police, whatever that means.
Xinjiang police have been cracking down on guns and explosives in the region since April 10, and this marks one of the biggest raids yet. But, well, all of the guns were fake, and were raided from a wholesale toy store. Fear not! The toy store owner has been detained on charges of “illegally trading in firearms.”
Police haven’t specified why fake guns are such a threat, but have said that, “more than 100 replica guns were classified as guns.” We thank the Xinjiang police for their clarity and precise language.
